Happy Sunday!
Reality sucks. Right? Not always, but let's be honest, most of the time, reality reeks worse than rotten chicken gizzards inside a sauna. I'm not talking about all aspects of life, but referring more to the things we hear--things concerning our writing careers. They go something like this..."Only one in a kabillion books make it to the bestseller's list." Or, "The likelihood of you getting published isn't likely." Here's a common one, "You'll never make a living as a writer."
If you haven't heard at least one of the above dream-killers, I promise it isn't because it hasn't been said. Oh yes, someone has said all of them behind your back while rolling their eyes. On more than one occasion, no lie. And here's what I have to say to that, "Whoopidy doooodle dooo!" So what if our making the bestseller's list is far-fetched?!?! Who cares if a cow has a better chance of being eaten by a dinosaur?!?! DON'T LET THE ODDS GET INSIDE YOUR HEAD!!!
BE A DREAMER!!!! BE A BELIEVER!!!! If we don't BELIEVE in our dreams, then the dream-killers win. Once we start thinking like them, we forfeit our chance to be great. WE LOSE!!!! THEY WIN!!!! GAME OVER!!!! YES I'M WRITING IN CAPS AND USING LOTS OF EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!! THIS IS SERIOUS, FOLKS!!!!
I don't care if you're reading this and have written 20 novels. You can't predict how my journey will end. You didn't write my story, so step aside and watch me fulfill my dreams. Who's with me?!?!
All right, if this didn't pump you up, READ IT AGAIN!!!! Until next time, happy writing!
You go girl!!! I'm totally with you. If one person reads my story, that's good enough. :) (Though, I'll never turn down the best seller list. :))
ReplyDeleteHey, Jessie!
ReplyDeleteMe too! And I say we have to dream big or don't dream at all. Life's too short to let reality bog us down. :)
Oh... I SO NEEDED THIS!!!!!!! Gah. Thank you, Celeste. Really. We *have* to keep going and keep believing.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Morgan, keep pushing ahead! One day, all our work will payoff! I'm glad you like this post! Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteSo true! Let's all believe together, I'm not giving up my dreams.
ReplyDeleteYeah!!!! We can do it! Life isn't worth living without dreams! :)
DeleteSomeone's book will be published. Someone's book will become a best seller. Giving up the dream just means that that someone won't be me.
ReplyDeleteWell, Jeff, I hope you don't! I'm not giving up mine! :)
DeleteYou know, as it turns out, cows get eaten by things older than dinosaurs all the time. Sharks are, from an evolutionary stand point, really ancient. In fact, I knew a paleontologist who said, "If I could have a time machine to go back to the Triassic, it would have to be a titanium shark cage."
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, maybe the chances aren't that bad after all...
Ha! Who knew?!?! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Never give up! I truly believe that people who work, learn, write, rewrite and never give up, always keep improving and working toward their goal, will reach it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteI believe you're right! And it's a wild ride, but totally worth it. :)
this reminds me of the movie title... reality bites!! hahah...great blog. new follower, here, hi!!
ReplyDeleteHey, Tammy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining! Funny you said that, (Reality Bites) I was thinking the same thing, lol!
I think this is a game of hard work and perseverence. If you give up, you're done. It's that simple.
ReplyDeleteSo right, Tonja! Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteI'm with you! Keep dreaming - and dream big!
ReplyDeleteAlways, Sherry! We just gotta! :)
DeleteWOOO!!! Now I'm going to write.... Wait, I can't, I have to wait until night.... Got me all inspired for nothing *saves inspiration for later tonight* Thanks for stopping by my blog! And I'm glad you found how to look at your page views :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Yeah, I guess I have to be smarter than my computer. :P I hope you stay up past midnight, tapping away on your keyboard! And I shall return to your blog again. :) Thank you for stopping by mine, too!
DeleteYes dream! While you are asleep and while you are awake!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, Jenn! Without dreams, we don't have much. :)
DeleteLove this! Keeping the dream alive!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Regina! :)
DeleteYAY!!! I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!! People have been telling me I couldn't do things or that they'd never work my whole life. They told me not to marry my husband, that he was a bum and besides...we were eighteen. Twenty-five years later, here we are. They told me not to homeschool my kids because they'd all have social issues. My kids are some of the most outgoing well-adjusted kids I've ever met. And they told me not to write...I'm still in the process of proving them wrong...
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!!! Keep going!!! And I've heard home school kids are much better off than public school kids. I've thought of doing it myself, but my kid is smarter than me, lol. Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteYes! This is so true. It felt so good to read this :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, T! If it made you feel good, then I might have done something right. We all need to keep this attitude. :)
DeleteThanks for this awesome pick-me-up post!
ReplyDeleteHey, Jackie!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and making me feel like I'm doing something right. I hope you come back soon. :)
Happy Writing indeed! What a great pick me up post! Newly following.
ReplyDeleteHey, VikLit!
DeleteI'm so glad you're following my blog, and Yay, cause that's what I want to do, pick everyone up. :)
I am having the weirdest deja vu...I commented on this...or did I just do it in my head after reading it on my iPhone? But I looked and I'm not here. Well, I'll say it again...dinosaurs eating cows...hehe. And I HEAR YOU!!
ReplyDeleteHa, I'm just now seeing this! Yeah, them dang dinosaurs...leave the cows alone!!!! :P
DeleteCeleste, you have the right, positive attitude to your writing dreams. Now they can become hard to cling to at times when you might enter the 'slough of despair', but pick yourself up and keep going. It's not necessarily the best writers who make it--it is the most persistant!
ReplyDeleteAs a veteran blogger meeting a new blogger, I'd advise you to link to your blog, not to Google+. I know google suggests you do, but very few do. If you want a lot of traffic, linking to Google+ means another click and sometimes it's hard to find your blog. You'll discover not many bloggers link to it. (This is purely my opinion. Please feel free to ignore it!)
Lovely to meet you. I will now go and follow you!
Denise
Great to meet you, too, Denise! I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing your comment. Thanks for the advice! I'll see if I can unlink it. Also, I really appreciate you following me. Thanks for stopping by. :)
DeleteI'm imagining rotten chicken gizzards in a sauna at the moment, and canceling breakfast.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about ignoring the naysayers and moving on. You should sign up for Insecure Writers' Support Group if you haven't already. We post on things like this every first Wed. of the month.
Thanks for stopping in at The Write Game to say hi. Hope to see you again.
Hey, Clee!
DeleteLol, about the chicken gizzards and sorry about your breakfast and that I'm just now getting to your comment. I did jump on the IWSG hop and hope to meet lost of new friends. Oh, and I love your book trailer, Alligators Overhead! Thanks so much for visiting. I hope to see you lots more. :)
