IWSG--Ridiculous

Hey,

First Wed of Every MonthToday I'm insecure about ridiculous stuff--like when I do a book signing--will people laugh at my handwriting? It's really ugly, kind of like a 3rd grader's. Also, since my book's debut, I've been stalking my Amazon sales rank until the numbers are permanently etched in my eyeballs. (Not really, but didn't that sound dramatic?) Still, worst of my insecurities is the thought of readers catching typos that my editors and I missed. Maybe we caught them all, but still I worry we didn't. Okay, so now you all know what's floating around inside my brain. To see what everybody else in this wonderful group is insecure about, click on this link IWSG or Insecure Writers Support Group

Thanks to our wonderful Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh for another smashing Wednesday of insecureness.

  1. Those are all pretty valid, honestly, but I wouldn't worry....if they enjoy your book, they'll be more in awe of you than wanting to be critical.

    I'm sure you'll do fine :)

  2. I worry about typos, too, but if you find one in a book you're reading it doesn't ruin the whole book, right? Readers can move past it. And I'm certainly a while away from any book signings, but I hate my signature.

    1. That's right. I don't really care when I find typos, so I suppose readers will forgive me if they find them in my work too. :)

  3. I don't think the fear of typos ever really goes away. And I have a terrible time with homonyms. People laugh at those. I do from time to time (like the time a student thanked me for my patients... That one made me feel like I might be involved in some sort of medical slave trade).

    1. Ha!!! Yeah, and what if I hammer a steak into the ground or am happier sense I moved? It's soooo easy to screw up! :)

  4. No one will care about your handwriting, when they are standing in your magnificent presence, they are sure to be too wowed to notice anything but your smile. :)

  5. OOhh, that's cool. I worry about not having a cool signature. I'd love a signature where the reader goes, "Dang, I'm buying that book because the signature is so cool!"

  6. Lol! No one could read my handwriting - my kids make fun of my scribble all the time. I'm pretty sure the people will find yours fantastic. After all, they get to meet you and have you sign - how awesome is that!

  7. My handwriting is illegible :P I don't think it matters, though - if it's from a writer, that automatically makes it cool! I've learned to stay away from Amazon rankings for my sanity's sake, and I still worry about typos in my books. I think it's normal! :)

  9. Agree with Laura. Pffff let it go, drink wine (makes it easier to let go). As a reader, I find typos and mistake from time to time in books and you know what? Couldn't care less. It happens. Congratulations on the book. THAT is worth celebrating!

  10. When you are famous, that signature will be worth something. Don't sweat the small stuff.

  13. I've weaned myself to looking once a day...and some days I forget! Impressive, right?

I always worry about spelling the persons name wrong on the book. That would be horrible.

  20. Stand in front of people and sign books? OMG...
When my turn comes, I'll stick to online promotions and marketing LOL

I was just thinking, most (if not all) doctors have an atrocious handwriting, but nobody bats an eyelid... they should afford writers the same treatment!
    Enjoy your book-signing experiences!
